Samsung is preparing to launch a new 980 M.2 NVMe SSD. Unlike the 980 PRO model, the new SSD is an affordable model that uses a PCI-Express 3.0 x4 interface and a DRAM-less controller. The Samsung 980 uses 136-layer 3D TLC NAND flash memory of the same type as the 980 PRO.

When it comes to speeds, the Samsung 980 offers sequential data read speeds of up to 3500 MB / s and sequential data write speeds of up to 3000 MB / s. 4K random access performance is also available, with 500,000 IOPS for data reading (4K, QD32) and up to 480,000 IOPS for writing (4K, QD1).

The capacity of the device is 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB, and Samsung expects to release 980 M.2 NVMe SSDs on March 30.
