Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - On this day

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - On this day

Star Wars games up to this century mostly belonged to the genres of shooters and action games. But exactly 19 years ago, the creators of the Baldur’s Gate series seized a unique opportunity and delivered us to the Star Wars RPG game. Full name Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, this title took us long before the action of the films themselves - almost four thousand years before the creation of the Galactic Empire.

Interestingly, BioWare came up with the idea by refusing to work on a game that would follow Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones. Working at KOTOR allowed them more creative freedom, and they took advantage of that in the best possible way. To this day, KOTOR remains the first choice when it comes to the RPG genre in the world of Star Wars.

It is an interesting fact that KOTOR was never available on the then most popular console, the PlayStation 2. Instead, it came out first on the Xbox and then on the PC. Subsequently, in 2013, it received a mobile edition for iOS and in 2014 for Android. The game received a sequel to The Sith Lords in 2004, directed by another team, and since 2011 its legacy has been MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic.

More recently, the original KOTOR can be played on the Xbox One console for which the game is also graphically embellished with the help of emulation charms. If you want to play the PC version, check which modifications you should consider.

It is also mentioned that KOTOR could be a template for a new trilogy of movies in the Star Wars franchise. A third game is reportedly in development, but at the time of writing this article has not yet been announced.
