Electronic Arts expects a loss of $ 100 million due to the disappointing Battlefield 2042

The publishing house Electronic Arts yesterday published its financial report in which they barely said anything about Battlefield 2042. The game, which was one of the biggest technical riots in 2021, has already shown on several occasions that it was not successful after its release. At one point, it was played on Steam by fewer players than Battlefield 5 and Battlefield 1 and sold at a 34% discount less than a month after launch. Now comes the official confirmation of Electronic Arts itself - Battlefield 2042 did not meet expectations.

“The development of this game, given that the developers have been working from home for almost two years, ultimately proved challenging. Through the process of testing and preparation, we believed that the gaming experience was ready for the players. In the beginning, we had a stable launch, but when more players appeared in the game, it became clear that we had unexpected performance problems that we had to solve. " - explained the President of Electronic Arts, Andrew Wilson to his investors.

Wilson admitted that some design decisions for Battlefield 2042 were not to the liking of the Battlefield player community, and reiterated what DICE emphasized yesterday - they are fully committed to realizing the full potential of the game. But it will take time.

Electronic Arts predicts that due to poorer sales of Battlefield 2042, it will achieve $ 100 million less than expected by the end of the second quarter of the fiscal year. However, as far as total earnings are concerned, this will not be a problem for them - they point out that FIFA and Apex Legends earn them more than expected, so everything will be fine for them.
