Mass Effect: Legendary Edition - FPS boost on PC and Consoles
If you’ve been following the news related to Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, then you know that this remaster collection wasn’t made for the current generation consoles (PS5 and XSX / S). However, this does not mean that the new consoles will not perform better.
From BioWare, they revealed to us that the game in all versions for consoles will have two performance modes, and players will be able to choose which ones they want to use. Quality-favoring mode will sacrifice the number of frames per second for a sharper and more detailed image, while performance-favoring mode will reduce some graphics effects and scale the resolution as needed to maintain a stable number of frames per second.
As for the new consoles, the PlayStation 5 will be able to run Mass Effect: Legendary Edition in native 4K resolution with up to 60 fps. The same goes for the Xbox Series X version, noting that it will also have a 120 fps playback mode at 1440p resolution. Here is a full list of performance modes by console:
PlayStation 4
- Quality-favoring mode: up to 30 fps at 1080p
- Performance-favoring mode: up to 60 fps at 1080p
PlayStation 4 Pro
- Quality-favoring mode: up to 30 fps at 4K
- Performance-favoring mode: up to 60 fps at 1440p
PlayStation 5
- Quality-favoring mode: up to 60 fps at 4K
- Performance-favoring mode: up to 60 fps at 1440p
Xbox One
- Quality-favoring mode: up to 30 fps at 1080p
- Performance-favoring mode: up to 60 fps at 1080p
Xbox One X and Series S
- Quality-favoring mode: up to 30 fps at 4K
- Performance-favoring mode: up to 60 fps at 1440p
Xbox Series X
- Quality-favoring mode: up to 60 fps at 4K
- Performance-favoring mode: up to 120 fps at 1440p
The PC version will not use these modes, but players will be able to adjust which settings work best for them at any time. The PC version will also support gaming at a maximum of 240 fps.
