Nintendo Has Sold the Most Games Since Selling Games in the Last Year

In the first three months of 2022, six million copies of the Nintendo Switch console were sold. As a result, the total number of Nintendo Switch owners rose to 107.65 million users. With the best days for the Switch yet to come, Nintendo could overtake the PlayStation 4 this year, which currently stands at 117.2 million units shipped. The Switch would then become the eighth-generation best-selling console, arguably the third-best-selling console in history.

However, Nintendo points out that sales of the Switch are declining - compared to 2020, 20% fewer consoles were sold in the period from April 1, 2021, to April 1, 2022. The main culprit for this is the lack of chips, ie console manufacturing components.

What Nintendo can be extremely proud of is selling games. In the mentioned period, a total of 235.07 million games were sold for Switch, which is a growth of 1.8% compared to the previous period. Even more impressive, it’s the highest annual score since Nintendo sold the game. A total of 39 titles for the Switch have sold more than a million copies.

It was revealed that Metroid Dread reached 2.9 million users, Pokemon Legends: Arceus was bought by 12.64 million players, and Kirby: The Forgotten Land attracted 2.1 million people. The best-selling games on the Switch are still the old titles - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (now at 45.33 million copies sold) and Animal Crossing: New Horizons (38.64 million).

Nintendo is counting on a successful 2022. They confirmed that in addition to Switch Sports, they plan to launch Mario Strikers this year: Battle League, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Splatoon 3, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, and Bayonetta 3.
